The occurrence of earthquake in Lombok (6.4 Richter scale on 29th july 2018) have caused severe damages and casualties in Lombok. With unusual aftershock occurring frequently afterwards have further worsen the condition of Lombok.
Wecare initiated emergency relief for those affected by the earthquakes. Wecare have collaborate with PKPU (Indonesia NGO) to execute this project. As per requirement of Indonesian government that any aid from international NGO must be executed through a local NGO.
PKPU was responsible to prepare the foodpacks and hygiene kit (buying of items and packing) along with the distribution of these items. Two wecare members went to Lombok to witness parts of the preparation of items and distributions.
14th August- Arrived at Lombok (No project activities were done as it was deemed already dark by the time we settled in).
15th August – Travel to North Lombok to look at situation closer and assessed areas / villages in need of more assistance.
16th August – Travel to Gangga, North Lombok to distribute food packs.
17th August – Travel back to Jakarta.

BENEFICIARIES OF THE PROJECT
It is expected that 325 families benefited with foodpacks and estimated 180 families benefited with the provision of hygiene kit. One cow was slaughtered (as qurban) and distributed to families in Lombok 44 temporary houses was also build during the recovery phase of Lombok.

CONCLUSION
During the visit made by two Wecare members to Lombok. It was clear what wecare was able to aid was very small portion of what is required by the people affected in Lombok. After brief assessment and discussion with PKPU representative the most needy during the time was identified and given the aid from wecare. These emergency aids can only provide a moment relief and happiness to the families. Upon leaving Lombok distribution are still ongoing. We Care is in close contact with representative of PKPU for updates on execution of Lombok recovery phase aids.
