In 2017, Turkey has reached icy temperatures and hit the low record levels during winter. Like many other efforts around the world providing aids to the Syrian refugees, WeCare aims to act as a
platform by establishing the “Syrian Warm Winter” project to open windows of opportunities to those who wish to contribute in helping the Syrian refugees.
This is WeCare’s second collaboration with Shafaq Sham; one of the NGOs in Kilis, Turkey.
Shafaq Sham was responsible to buy and prepare the food packs and winter bags needed. Four WeCare members along with two volunteers went to Kilis to help distribute the items and at the
same time, they also conversed with the Syrian refugees.
16 Oct – Arrived at Shafaq Sham Centre.
17-18 Oct – Welcoming Ceremony at Shafaq Sham Centre & Dialogue Sessions.
19 Oct – AM-PM: Pick up boxes at market then Food Distribution (Kilis Municipality’s list).
20 Oct – AM-PM: Syrian Refugee Camp.
21 Oct – AM : Depart from Shafaq Sham Centre.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
BENEFICIARIES OF THE PROJECT
Around 1000 food packs and 200 winter bags were distributed to the Syrian refugees.
PROJECT BUDGET
B$ 53,500.31
CONCLUSION
During WeCare’s visit to the Syrian homes and camp, it can be seen that our contribution to them is only little compared to what they need.
As a result, a long-term project will be more sustainable. As discussed, WeCare will be collaborating with Shafaq Sham again on such project; i.e. building a bread factory. Not only will the bread factory provide employment to the Syrian refugees but also it can provide food for them.
